The brief:

To undertake an Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) for the proposed construction of a high rope adventure course at Itchen Valley Country Park in accordance with all relevant nature conservation legislation, policy and guidance.

Our role:

  • Perform detailed characterisation of the ecological baseline, including an evaluation of the nature conservation importance of each ecological receptor
  • Complete a comprehensive assessment of the potential direct and indirect ecological impacts of the development proposals
  • Provide detailed description of the mitigation and enhancement measures for biodiversity to be implemented as part of the development proposals
  • Put together a full evaluation of the significance of the residual ecological impacts likely to occur once all proposed mitigation and enhancement measures were taken into account
  • Present at planning committee
  • Supervise aspects of the installation and ecological mitigation
  • Undertake post-construction monitoring to demonstrate the success of the project

The outcome:

Planning consent for the proposals was granted and Johns Associates delivered ecological mitigation, enhancement and management measures during the construction process and was able to report the project was a success.
