Volunteering at Abberd Brook

A team from Johns Associates recently spent a day volunteering at Abberd Brook, clearing ground for local schools to sow poppy seeds in remembrance of the anniversary of World War One.

Johns have been working with the charity Friends of Abberd Brook for two years on the masterplan and implementation for the redesign of the neglected Abberd Brook in Calne.

The restoration plans are breathing new life and interest into the watercourse and its corridor, encouraging community involvement, inspiring social responsibility and informal policing and increasing outdoor activity and interaction.

The latest activity involved a team of five Johns Associates’ staff clearing an area near the brook for local school children to use to sow poppy and other wildflower seeds, which went ahead in time for the recent 100th anniversary of the start of World War One.
