Ecology

From an initial walkover survey providing detailed technical advice for a Planning Committee through to the implementation of a habitat creation scheme, Johns Associates offers a full range of ecological services. We take a pragmatic and robust approach to ecological issues, backed by best practice and scientific evidence. We work with our clients to guide them through the ecological aspects of their project.

Ecological projects rarely exist in isolation – solutions often need to be multi-functional. We understand how ecology can affect businesses and contribute to people’s quality of life and we have a detailed knowledge of biodiversity conservation. Our ecologists are perfectly placed to collaborate with our in-house landscape, planning, water and contracting teams to enable all-in-one solutions.

Johns Associates is a CIEEM Registered Practice and has a track record of delivering successful, multi-disciplinary schemes that are aligned with the requirements of specific habitats and species and provide the benefits of an ecosystem services approach.

You, ecology and the law…

Many UK species and habitats are afforded protection under UK and European legislation. You need to understand the risks from the outset and be able to demonstrate you are legally compliant. We can help with all stages from survey, through negotiation and design, to securing relevant protected species licences and delivery on the ground. We can create the habitats that may be required for your project to proceed and succeed or manage existing habitats to improve their ecological value.

Our ecological capabilities extend beyond protected species and encompass a wide range of other valuable services in terrestrial and aquatic environments.

Our ecologists have relevant academic qualifications, protected species licences and are Members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
